Wade in media top ten

By Press Gazette

Sun editor Rebekah Wade is the first woman to enter the top ten of MediaGuardian’s annual list of the most powerful people in the UK media, writes Mary Stevens.

Wade is also the highest-ranked British newspaper editor in the Guardian list.

Six women feature in the top 30, compared with two last year. They are Rebekah Wade, Dawn Airey, Eileen Gallagher, Sly Bailey, Jana Bennett and Marjorie Scardino.

Janine Gibson, editor-in-chief of MediaGuardian, said: “Women are still vastly under-represented at the top, but this year for the first time we are seeing a few women finally break through the glass ceiling to take some of the most powerful positions in the British media.”

The list is published on Monday, 7 July.
