The Fleet Street Press Golf Society secured a memorable victory as it triumphed over its French equivalent in their annual tournament.
Played in a format similar to the Ryder Cup, the British team won by 18 points to 14.
Captain Sir Nicholas Lloyd, former editor of the Daily Express, said: “It’s great to win in our centenary year, but the entente cordiale was the most important aspect of the tournament.
Much of the practice was done in the bar by the British team, but it seemed to do the trick.”
Sixteen of Fleet Street’s finest tackled the Kingsbarns Golf Links course in St Andrews, including: Hayley Barlow of the News of the World, Kevin Price and Lloyd Embley of the Mirror , Keith Ging of the Express, former Press Gazette editor Philippa Kennedy, the Mail on Sunday ‘s Ian McIlgorm and Chris Stephens of The Sun.
