Officers investigating allegations of inappropriate payments to police and public officials arrested two former NHS workers in Somerset this morning.
Police from the Met's Operation Elveden arrested a 46-year-old-man at his home address in Bridgwater, Somerset on suspicion of conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office and on suspicion of corruption.
A 42-year-old woman, another former NHS employee, was also arrested at her home address in Bridgwater on the same charges.
Both are being questioned at a police station in Somerset.
In a statement the Met said: 'Today's arrests are the result of information provided to police by News Corporation's Management Standards Committee.
'It relates to suspected payments to public officials and is not about seeking journalists to reveal confidential sources in relation to information that has been obtained legitimately.
It brings the total number of arrests in the Elveden probe to 39
