The Times has appointed former Mixmag editor Tom Whitwell to the newly created position of communities editor on its website.
Meanwhile, former Wall Street Journal Europe journalist Jennifer Howze has been made the site's lifestyle editor.
Times Online editor-in-chief Anne Spackman said: "Tom and Jennifer both have vast experience in delivering high-quality information to niche audiences who are passionate about their particular subject and who know what they do and don't want to read."
Currently working for healthcare website Dr Foster, Whitwell was previously deputy editor at The Face and news editor for Ministry magazine. He is also the founder of musicthing.co.uk, a blog for musicians.
Howze is currently senior editor at iVillage.co.uk and prior to that was in New York, where she worked at Allure magazine. She has also written for the Wall Street Journal Europe and various Condé Nast publications.
Last week The Times launched new comment blog Comment Central and a downloadable daily business briefing, available as a printable pdf file.
