The Independent and Independent on Sunday will move to the Daily Mail’s offices in April, editor-in-chief Simon Kelner told staff yesterday.
The move from their home in Docklands, east London, to Northcliffe House, west London, was announced in November.
Kelner said then: “The chance to share office space, initially, and then, further down the line, explore the possibilities of sharing other back-office services is very attractive to us.”
And, in a staff address yesterday, he said the move would go ahead in April. Commercial staff will leave first, with journalists on The Independent last to leave.
Kelner also encouraged any staff who wished to leave to take voluntary redundancy.
Independent News and media announced in November it was cutting 90 jobs, including 60 journalists, in a bid to save £10m.
