Porter: strengthens political team
Andrew Porter has been appointed deputy political editor of The Sunday Times.
Porter was formerly a business correspondent on the paper, having joined in 2003 from The Business, where he was political editor for three years.
Previously he was a lobby journalist for the Western Morning News in Plymouth, where he began his career in 1997.
David Cracknell, Sunday Times political editor since 2001, praised the record of his new deputy: “I am delighted that Andy is joining us and that our political team will be at full strength in the run-up to the next General Election.
“He is a proven talent and was commended in the Press Gazette Awards this year.
“He will help us capitalise on a string of political scoops in the past 12 months, including a catalogue of Cabinet leaks such as David Blunkett’s ID card plans.”
Sunday Times chief political correspondent Eben Black was sacked by the paper in February after he declined to be moved across to the defence correspondent job.
