Press Gazette’s search is on for the best student journalists of the year. Following last year’s highly successful launch of the Student Journalism Awards, entries are now open in nine categories for students and trainees on recognised journalism courses.
The courses they are following can be at any level of academic qualification – undergraduate, postgraduate, HND, GNVQ, private diploma – as long as they are specifically designed for journalists. They might be anything from a three-year course to an intensive 12-week programme of study.
The categories are: news writer; feature writer; scoop; interviewer; online journalist; radio journalist; television journalist; photographer and student team of the year. An overall student journalist of the year will be chosen from the winners of the individual categories.
Each winner will receive a prize of £500, which will be presented at a ceremony at The Brewery in Chiswell Street, London on 25 June. The closing date for entries is 12 May. You should find an entry form with this magazine, or you can download a version from www.pressgazette.co.uk. For further details, contact Andrea Hayes on 020 8565 3056 or e-mail andreah@qpp.co.uk.
