Price rises for a number of national newspapers have helped offset the overall decline in circulation, according to Smiths News, one of the UK’s biggest distributors of news.
But in its annual results, the company – formed from the demerger of WHSmith plc – said weekly magazine sales were flat and monthlies “remained more difficult”.
Like-for-like revenue from newspapers rose 1 per cent to £657.6m. Magazine revenue fell 2.5 per cent to £527.7m.
“Looking ahead we believe conditions will remain challenging,” the company said.
