Rolling news rivals in revamps

By Press Gazette

ITV News Channel and BBC News 24 are gearing up for the next phase of the ratings battle as they both prepare to overhaul their rolling news services in the run-up to the new year.

ITV News Channel has just received a seven-figure cash injection from majority shareholders Granada and Carlton, in a bid to “change its whole look” in a revamp by early next year.

The funding comes a year after it rebranded from ITN News Channel. Editor Dominic Crossley-Holland said one likely change would be doubling the daily news presenters to two.

“There will also be more live content and less repetition on the programme,” he told Press Gazette.

The move coincides with an overhaul of BBC News 24, which was overseen by BBC Ten O’Clock News editor Mark Popescu. The channel is expected to relaunch on 1 December.
