Relaunch

By Press Gazette

Weekly City-based newspaper the Financial News has relaunched with a philosophy of less is more.

And despite the recent recession, its owners say the title is now showing a healthy profit.

It is the title’s first redesign since it was launched in 1996 and intends to reduce its word count while making stories more accessible.

Editor William Wright said: “The fresh, new look is part of this strategy for growth and is designed to take Financial News up-market. The elegant and crisp new feel will better present the paper’s authoritative and sharperedged editorial approach.

“To engage busy executives our content must not only be relevant but also packaged in the most creative and attractive way possible. So we are focusing on quality – not quantity – with our readers benefiting from more thinking and less writing.

“Word content will fall by 10 to 15 per cent so the paper will not only look less dense but stories will be more accessible, with more creative use of graphics and photographs.”
