The
Journal, Newcastle, described by judges as being “cool, polished and
confident”, has been named regional newspaper of the year in the
Trinity Mirror regional awards. It also won the award for the best news
pages for a daily or Sunday newspaper.
Editor Brian Aitken is
pictured left with Peter Genower, former editor of TV Times, who
presented the award for regional newspaper of the year.
The
Croydon Advertiser also scored a double whammy, winning regional weekly
newspaper of the year and best news and features pages for a weekly
title. Judges praised it for its “bold use of style, content and
improved sales performance”.
Other winners were: Welsh Daily
Post, regional scoop of the year; Wales on Sunday, regional front page
of the year and best sports pages for a regional or Sunday title;
Liverpool Daily Post, best features pages for a daily or Sunday title;
Crewe Chronicle, best sports pages and regional campaign of the year;
Liverpool Echo, regional reader engagement.
