Q-News editor Fareena Alam has received the 2006 Asian Women of Achievement Award for media professional of the year.
Accepting
the award at a ceremony in London on 27 May, Alam said that it was
heartening that the awards jury had recognized the important role that
independent, faith based journalism plays in modern Britain media.
Alam
is the second female editor of Q-News since the Muslim current affairs
magazine’s founding in 1992. Born in London and raised in Singapore,
she returned to London in 2001 to take up the position of news editor
at Q-News and became managing editor in 2003.
The Asian Women
of Achievement Awards recognise the achievements of Asian women across
all sectors – commercial, professional, artistic and humanitarian.
