Six editorial jobs are being cut at Teesside’s Evening Gazette.
Press Gazette understands owners Trinity Mirror have put forward plans to restructure the newsdesk and reduce the number of senior editorial positions from six to three, and to create three new roles of ‘senior editorial executive”.
It is understood that the number of sub-editors is being reduced from nine to seven and that a senior picturedesk role is also under threat.
The company is currently consulting with the NUJ on the proposals.

A spokesman for Trinity said: ‘There is a proposed reduction in editorial staff numbers of six and we hope to achieve as many of these as possible by voluntary means.”
NUJ Northern and Midlands organiser Chris Morley said: ‘I’m concerned at the manner in which the company is trying to carry through these proposals with undue haste.
‘There are a lot of questions which need to be asked – and the chapel will be asking these questions. Such severe cuts to editorial staff come after a very, very painful restructuring less than three years ago.”
The latest ABC figure for the Gazette shows average daily circulation of 40,656, down 7.5 per cent year on year.
