The UK’s regional Sunday newspapers dropped circulation by an average of 5.2 per cent year-on-year in the first six months of this year.
Among the risers was the Stoke Sentinel Sunday which was up 15.8 per cent gain to 11,886.
The Sentinel lost sales in the first half of 2006 due to a 10p price rise but the Northcliffe-owned title has seen huge growth since its move to a tabloid format 12 months ago.
Newcastle’s Sunday Sun dropped 3.9 per cent year-on-year to 68,960 and Birmingham’s Sunday Mercury dropped 3.5 per cent to 58,907.
Wales on Sunday suffered a loss of 5.6 per cent year-on-year, taking average circulation to 42,000 and in Northern Ireland the Sunday Journal made a small gain of 1.3 per cent to 6,691. Also in Northern Ireland, Sunday life dropped 3.8 per cent to 74,886.
