KM Group to launch online archive of war newspapers

By Paul McNally

KM Group has announced it is preparing to launch a fully searchable online archive of Kent Messenger editions from the Second World War.

The Kent’s War website, which is due to be unveiled in September, includes stories, photographs and ads published between 1939 and 1945.

Hundreds of news pages have been micro-filmed and converted to a digital archive which can be searched by date, family name, place name or any other keyword.

KM Group managing editor Ron Green said: “The KM’s war pages provide a first-hand account of every day life as well as the remarkable courage and tenacity of the people in Medway and Kent who endured so much for so long.”
