Job cuts at DC Thomson

By Press Gazette

Scottish publisher DC Thomson is planning to make 15 editorial staff redundant,.

Ten of those redundancies are expected to come from amongst the staff of the Glasgow-based Sunday Post newspaper.

According to the NUJ, the group’s editorial staff were summoned to a meeting in Dundee last week by editor-in-chief Donald Martin where they were notified of the job losses.

Employees are understood to have until today to put their names forward if they are interested in volunteering for redundancy.

DC Thomson is a privately owned newspaper and magazine publishing company with its main offices in Dundee.

The NUJ said it had stepped up a recruitment campaign amongst DC Thomson employees in response to the jobs threat by positioning an ad trailer outside the company’s main newspaper offices and organising a series of meetings with staff.

Paul Holleran, Scottish organiser of the NUJ, said: ‘People are now clearly afraid for their jobs following this shock announcement and many have come to the NUJ for support and advice.

‘We have organised meetings in Glasgow and Dundee for staff to come along and a series of informal meetings for journalists and other editorial workers unable to attend these meetings.”
