Martin Samuel, the football correspondent of The Times, is in contention to be named Sports Journalists’ Association sports writer of the year for a third year running.
Samuel has been shortlisted for the award along with two other former winners, James Lawton of The Independent and the Daily Mail’s Paul Hayward.
The other journalists on the shortlist are: Times columnist Simon Barnes, Guardian sports news reporter David Conn and Daily Mirror columnist Oliver Holt.
The shortlist was compiled following voting by sports editors on Britain’s national newspapers.
The awards will be presented on 17 March at The Brewery in London.
