Football Extra newspaper launched in competition with Future’s digital Football First mag

The publishers of monthly title Racing Ahead are believed to be behind a new weekly football newspaper.

It is the second new weekly UK football publication to be announced in the space of a week.

According to distributors Intermedia, Football Extra will go on sale Thursday 7 February for the first time, priced £1.50.

According to Intermedia it will be based in Liverpool and edited by former Sun journalist Steve Mullen who will lead a 10-strong editorial team.

Intermedia saiid in a statement: “Each issue features a double-page spread betting preview of every Premier League match, complete with key odds and stats. The paper also features in-depth coverage of the Championship, Leagues One and Two, plus Scottish and non-league football.

“Football Extra also includes European coverage, with all the major and minor leagues previewed, along with the Champions and Europa League games. In addition, the paper will feature detailed form guides for all the teams in the major leagues, along with betting advice on the week's games.

Mullen said: "Football Extra is the paper for anyone who likes to have a bet on football. We're presenting top-class analysis in an accessible way backed up by a range of key stats, form and odds. Even if you're not a big punter, Football Extra will arm readers with everything they need to know.”

The new title will go head to ahead with a weekly digital football mag launching this Friday.

Football Week is being produced by Future, with editorial provided by Press Association

It also plans to provide a preview of the weekend’s football action and has a cover price of £1.99 a week, £3.99 a month or £19.99 for a year.
