Grazia art director Suzanne Sykes is to leave the Emap glossy to become creative director of theUS edition of Marie Claire.
Sykes has been lured Stateside by British born Marie Claire editor Joanna Cole. Sykes was art director on the UK edition of Marie Claire from its inception in 1989 to 1997.
Most recently, shes is credited with making Grazia one of the most revered launches in recent times and both she and the magazine picked up a string of design awards since launching in 200,5 including Best Designed Launch at the Magazine Design Awards and the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) Designer of the Year.
Marie Claire US is a joint venture between Hearst Magazines and Marie Claire Album, Marie Claire’s parent company in Paris. Sykes will join the magazine in August.
In a statement, Joanna Cole said: ‘For years, Suzanne has been an influential force in magazine design and has proved her skills through wildly successful launches and groundbreaking ideas.
‘I am elated to have lured her to the States to work on Marie Claire. Suzanne’s experience and keen eye for design will help the magazine reach the next level in artistic and editorial excellence.”
