Upmarket publisher Condé Nast is launcing a bi-annual style magazine edited by former editor-in-chief of Pop, Katie Grand.
The magazine – yet to be named – is set to launch in March 2009. Condé Nast, which also publishes Vogue and GQ, has said the title will be a ‘larger than most monthlies’in page size, and that it will be ‘edgy and exciting”.
Prior to launching fashion and art magazine Pop in 2000, Grand worked on the launch of Jefferson Hack’s style magazine Dazed & Confused and the now defunct The Face.
She has also worked as a stylist and consultant with clients including Louis Vuitton and Giles Deacon.
Commenting on her appointment, Grand said she was looking forward to building up a new magazine from scratch again. ‘A fresh start is always fun, and we have lots of ideas we can’t wait to start working on,’she said.
Nicholas Coleridge, managing director of Condé Nast, said it promised to be an excting launch. He said: “It is a new departure for Condé Nast UK to publish an edgy, high-end style title in this sector, and in Katie Grand we have the perfect editor who brings the perfect team.”
The high-end market has seen two big launches in the last month, with the sector showing little sign of being affected by the credit crunch.
Rupert Murdoch launched WSJ magazine, dubbed a ‘magazine for the rich”, at the beginning of September. The same week former Wallpaper* publisher Christopher Lockwood launched Distill, a compilation of fashion and style press from around the world. Both magazine secured high-end advertising from the start.
