PA Photos is rolling out its real time photo service ShootLive across the company and is to stream images from all 380 Premier League matches this season from the pitch side directly to newsrooms
Head of news pictures at PA Photos Matt Morton said: ‘If an event is close to people’s deadlines we will use it so the pictures are on the wire ahead of everyone else. Websites now want instant pictures and newspapers are keen that we are using it.”
Morton said the biggest growth area for the technology has been in the showbusiness sector.
He said: ‘We beat other agencies by about an hour at Prince Harry’s passing out parade because our photographer didn’t have to stop and file or worry about missing pictures, he was just linked up to his box. Everyone else had to do their edit at the end in a room somewhere.”
Meanwhile, Virgin Media has signed a partnership with PA Sport that makes it the main content supplier to the new sport website.
PA Sport will provide editorial and data covering more than 30 sports to the site, which Virgin said aims to be one of the UK’s most comprehensive and original internet sports services. Chris Bunyan, portal director at Virgin Media, said: ‘PA Sport delivers a dynamic service which meets the very high standards we expect.
‘We are committed to investing in exciting content that brings the action to life, and PA Sport has the capacity and flexibility to help us achieve this.”
Editorial supplied by PA Sport will include round-the-clock breaking sports news, match and event previews, big name interviews and in-depth features, delivered 365 days a year. Some of the editorial content will be bespoke for Virgin Media and written in its own house style.
