The Independent has been given a 20-page ruling detailing e-mails and memos that show how the infamous dossier on Iraq’s weapons capability was altered by the government to make the case for war in 2003.
Political correspondent James Macintyre writes that after “repeated” requests under the Freedom of Information Act, Information Commissioner Richard Thomas ordered that evidence should be released that shows “that the dossier was deliberately manipulated in order to present an exaggerated case for military action”.
The Information Tribunal ordered in January that an early draft of the dossier was released.
