Ernest Petrie will be promoting the interests of weekly Scottish newspapers in his new role as president for the Scottish Newspaper Publishers Association.
Petrie is chairman of Forth Independent Newspapers, publisher of Alloa based Wee County News. He was previously group managing editor of Regional Independent Newspapers, at the time of the sale of that company to Johnston Press in 2002.
Petrie commented: “I am a great believer in weekly newspapers. They play a unique part in the life of the community, especially in Scotland where they are really standing the test of time.
“When asked to accept the position of president I was very pleased. The Association is a lobbying organisation and one of the things I will pay considerable attention to is maintaining editorial independence throughout our titles.”
