Guardian reshuffle sees Muir made diary editor

The Guardian has appointed Hugh Muir as diary editor taking over from Jon Henley who becomes a feature writer.

Muir is a reporter who joined The Guardian from the Evening Standard in 2003. He has also worked for the Daily Telegraph and the Mail on Sunday.

In other changes at the paper, Riazatt Butt has been made religious affairs correspondent. Butt was formerly a reporter for the Manchester Evening News before joining the Guardian as a reporter. She will continue to present the Guardian’s ‘Islamophonic’podcast.

Polly Curtis has been made education editor (news) and Jessica Moore has been made editor, Education Guardian to cover Claire Phipps’ maternity leave.

Isabelle Choat has been made travel editor on a one year fixed term contract to cover Andy Pietrasiks’s secondment to Guardian Unlimited as travel editor.

Helen Pidd has been appointed as a reporter on the news desk moving from her role as commissioning editor for G2
