Scottish ITV franchise STV is overhauling its operations for its
latest east and west news bulletins, due to begin next year. One
producer will lose their job when the 2pm slot is dropped.
STV has advertised for a newsgathering editor and an editor of news programmes.
The company has advertised in the national media, leading to speculation that two current producers will lose their jobs.
STVs
head of news Gordon McMillan said: “There’s a strong field of internal
candidates but, with jobs of that seniority, I think its important to
see who’s interested in the job.”
The BBC also has plans to
create six regional bulletins available through broadband in Scotland.
McMillan said: “There’s a lot of merit in it [the BBC’s plans] but the
issue is that broadband isn’t generally accepted at the moment – not
everyone will be able to access this service.”
