Independent and Baltimore Sun crime reporters in job swap

The crime reporters at The Independent and the Baltimore Sun have done a job swap to find out if shadow home secretary Chris Grayling was right when he said that the streets of London are now as crime-ridden as those in Baltimore, as portrayed by US series The Wire.

The Independent’s Mark Hughes reveals how in Baltimore the police use Twitter to keep reporters updated about the latest shooting, such is their regularity.

In London, the Baltimore Sun’s Justin Fenton awakes to hear what sounds like gunfire outside his Kentish Town flat – only to find out that it is fireworks.
