The Maritime and Coastguard Agency

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency is responsible throughout the UK for implementing the Government's maritime safety policy. That includes coordinating search and rescue at sea, on cliffs and at the shoreline through Her Majesty's Coastguard, and checking that ships meet UK and international safety rules. We work to prevent the loss of lives at the coast and at sea, to ensure that ships are safe, and to prevent coastal pollution. Safer Lives, Safer Ships, Cleaner Seas.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)

The RNLI is a registered charity that saves lives at sea by operating an oncall, 24-hour service providing lifeboat search and rescue for the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. We depend on volunteers – to crew lifeboats at more than 230 lifeboat stations, and to fundraise right across the British Isles. We rely on public donations and legacies for income – the annual running cost for the lifeboat service is in excess of £110 million – £300,000 per day.
