South West News Service, which claims to be the biggest independent
news agency in Britain, is expanding into Devon and Cornwall.
The Bristol-based agency is opening an office in Plymouth.
SWNS
has recruited a regional news editor, two reporters and two
photographers to launch the operation, taking its total staff to more
than 40.
The office, led by regional news editor Joe Taylor and
photographer Lewis Whyld, will open on Monday week. A feature writer
will be added to the team.
News editor and partner Andrew Young
said the move was prompted by demand from national newsdesks, which
asked the agency to expand south and west.
