New charity sector monthly magazine launches

By Oliver Luft

Charity Insight, a new monthly magazine for the UK charitable sector, has been launched today.

The magazine, which will be distributed free to charity bosses, civil servants and politicians, is produced by Progressive Media – which also publishes Press Gazette and the New Statesman.

The first three issues will also be distributed for free with copies of the New Statesman while subsequent issues will be made freely available to those working in the charity sector and on a paid-for subscription basis for others.

The title is being edited by Becky Slack, formerly editor of Professional Fundraising and deputy editor of Charity Times. She also has experience working for the British Red Cross as a senior fundraiser.

She said: “Our mission is to inform, inspire and influence charities by providing them with the research, analysis and opinion they need in order to bring about positive change for society.

“Appearing 12 times a year in print and updated constantly at charityinsight.com, Charity Insight has been developed for an audience hungry for data they can use to inform their strategies.

“Both the magazine and website will be packed full of statistics and analysis that will provide readers with a rigorous examination of the sector’s activities, opportunities and challenges.”

The lead feature of the launch issue is based on Freedom of Information requests which were made to more than 400 local authorities to find out what cuts have already been made to voluntary sector budgets ahead of this week’s comprehensive spending review.

The investigation revealed that charities have already felt the impact of more than £112m of cutbacks as a result of the local government spending squeeze.
