Nelson storms Geographic

By Press Gazette

National Geographic magazine plans to boost sales of its October edition by printing a rare UK-only cover celebrating the Battle of Trafalgar.

The
last time the title published a UK-tailored cover, in December last
year, sales of the title shot up by 40 per cent in Britain.

The magazine has varied its UK and US covers only four times in its 115-year history.

The
October UK edition will present an image of Admiral Lord Nelson, while
the US and international editions will show an image related to avian
flu.

General manager Declan Moore said: “National Geographic is
not just about lions and zebras any more. Readers are recognising that
the magazine is a relevant and reliable source of world information.

“The
UK cover variation acknowledges the strength the magazine has gained in
this market and will further enhance its UK identity.”
