Middletons in PCC complaint against four newspapers

Pictures published at the weekend of a pair of bikini-clad Middleton sisters on the deck of a powerboat in Ibiza five years ago have prompted complaints to the Press Complaints Commission against four newspapers.

The PCC confirmed to Press Gazette that it has received complaints from representatives of the Middleton family against the News of the World, Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday and Daily Mirror.

The Editors’ Code states: ‘It is unacceptable to photograph individuals in private places without their consent. Private places are public or private property where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy.”

The photos, taken by agency Big Pictures, are of the Pippa and Kate Middleton, Prince William, and some other friends, on the deck of a motor yacht during a week-long break in Ibiza in 2006. They are apparently in a secluded spot and the pictures seem to be have taken by a photographer using a long zoom lens.

The News of the World has now taken the photos down from its website and obscured the pages in its digital edition where they appear – including the front page. These included a photo of Pippa Middleton removing her bikini top.

At time of writing a set of the photos was still live on the Daily Mail website.

The pictures appeared in the News of the World and Mail on Sunday last weekend and in the Daily Mirror and Daily Mail yesterday.
