In spite of an intensive marketing campaign and wide circulation gains, the tabloid Ireland on Sunday newspaper has had a pre-tax loss of €13 million in the year ending September 2003, writes Des Cryan in Dublin.
Its losses in the previous year totalled €14.6 million. The paper had a turnover of €10 million in its latest accounts, up from €3.5 million in the previous period.
Ireland on Sunday is published by Associated Newspapers Ireland, which is owned by the Daily Mail and General Trust. ABC figures show that its circulation in December 2003 stood at 160,500 copies.
