Les Hinton agrees to face MPs

By Dominic Ponsford

Former News International boss Les Hinton is to become the latest executive from the company to face a grilling from MPs.

Les Hinton, now chief executive of Dow Jones, is to give evidence via video-link to the House of Commons Culture Committee as part of its ongoing investigation into press standards, privacy and libel.

The session follows the publication of a series of articles by The Guardian concerning new allegations about the use of private invesgators by the News of the World and the phone-tapping scandal which led to former royals reporter Clive Goodman being jailed and to the resignation of then editor Andy Coulson in January 2007.

Current NoW editor Colin Myler, former managing editor Stuart Kuttner, head of legal Tom Crone and Coulson have already testified before the committee over the same issue.

Hinton will be questioned from 2.30pm in the Grimond Room, at Portcullis House on Tuesday, 15 September.
