Lack of pals leaves Levy in the balance

Despite BBC self-flagellation about bias, sometimes the Corporation’s attempts at lively political coverage are stymied by more practical problems. Radio 4’s Today programme recently hoped to hold a discussion on the swanky drinks party the Government was throwing for Lord Levy.

The item had to be pulled late in the day. Why? Because BBC editorial guidelines demand “balance” and no one in the entire broadcasting world could be found to speak up for the controversial Levy.
