  • Up to £28,000 dependent on experience

We’re looking for a proactive media relations specialist to step into a key role within our integrated agency (part of the Definition Group). You might be a graduate with a particular interest in the news and stakeholder influence, looking for your first role within the PR industry, or you might already be in a media role looking to use your journalistic training to switch to the dark side!

We offer a hybrid working environment with gorgeous central London and Leeds offices that can be used flexibly.

Media relations, in all its forms (from traditional print newspapers to YouTube channels, podcasts, newsletters and social media) is a key part of our offering and is one of our not-so-secret weapons. We’re really interested in the most effective ways to influence a target audience, and we’re on a mission to improve and publicise this.

Your colleagues will love you. Clients will be wowed by your expertise. Journalists will tweet about how great you are.

You will work with our client teams to:

  • Develop compelling media stories on behalf of our clients.
  • Maintain and expand our database of media contacts.
  • Build relationships with key journalists.
  • Develop (and shout about) our channel expertise.
  • Manage media pitches (you’ll have the support of account teams, but you will be doing a lot of the pitching yourself).
  • Liaise with clients, journalists and our account teams to make sure that journalists get all the information they need from our clients, and have a positive experience dealing with the media.
  • Follow up to ensure media interactions result in coverage.

You are that person if you:

  • Are a people person – journalists don’t want to talk to robots – they want engaging interactions with human beings genuinely interested in their beat. They also like to be occasionally wined and dined!
  • Are genuinely interested in the news and how public relations influences the news agenda. This is super important – if the news agenda fascinates you, you’ll be well suited to this role.
  • Are a lateral thinker – can you follow all the journalists on Twitter writing about UK enterprise and connect what they’re tweeting about with our clients? We’ll teach you how!
  • Are confident, happy networking and have a thick skin.
  • Have excellent powers of persuasion.
  • Are a keen learner – we use a range of digital tools to be more efficient at media outreach and increase our chances of success, but we also understand there’s no substitute for solid research into an influencer’s remit.
  • Strike the perfect balance between being organised (we’re sticklers for process) and being creative.
  • Are a pleasure to work with and a team player – you’re considerate of colleagues, generally great to have around, and punctual – you’ll be a vital cog in a well-tuned machine so your ability to work with client managers, copywriters and SEO and social specialists is really important.
  • Are a creative thinker – not every pitch will result in success, so it’s important to be able to rotate a story until you find the right angle for the right journalist.
  • Are courageous and determined – sometimes there’s no substitute for a bit of grit and determination!

This is a great time to be joining our agency: we offer an exceptional benefits package (private healthcare, fully flexible working, your birthday off, a wellness-related bonus), an awesome social calendar, incredible training opportunities and a fast-growing team full of bright sparks. Plus, we offer excellent career development opportunities for the right person.

We’re always looking for the best talent to add to our agency – if this role sounds right for you, then please get in touch. To apply simply send 120 words on why we should invite you to be interviewed for this role, along with your CV to:
