Independent local weekly the Teesdale Mercury is to launch a sister title creating six jobs, two of which will be journalists.
The
Wear Valley Mercury will hit newsstands in September and cover the
areas of Croos, Wolsingham, West Auckland and Willington in County
Durham.
Editor Adrian Braddy said: "The Teesdale Mercury has a
long and proud history, but our circulation has pretty much reached
saturation point.
"We felt it was important to continue growing and we looked at a number of options.
"Launching
a new title in Wear Valley made geographical sense, and the area is
poorly served by the media, so launching a new title there made sense."
