Alastair Machray, editor of the Welsh Daily Post, is recovering in hospital in Liverpool after heart surgery last Saturday. He is out of intensive care and back on a medical ward.
Machray suffered a heart attack at Easter and had tests over the Bank Holiday weekend at Arrowpark Hospital. He is thought to be making good progress after the operation.
He has just revamped his evening newspaper after its split with the English Daily Post.
A spokesman for Trinity Mirror, which owns the Post, said: “Ally is a great editor and is extremely well thought of throughout the company. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
Senior assistant editor Mark Brittain is acting editor in Machray’s absence.
