The editor’s chair at one of Britain’s oldest weekly papers is falling vacant.
Alan Cleaver will leave the Hampshire Chronicle, based in Winchester, next February.
He plans to move to the Lake District with his partner, Lesley Park, who also works at the paper, and write a book on the folklore and customs of Britain.
Cleaver said: “It had always been our intention to move back eventually to Lesley’s home town of Whitehaven and our personal circumstances are now right for that move.
“The Chronicle is a unique paper and it’s been a privilege to sit in the editor’s chair for the past eight years.”
