“In the past six months, the Guardian has conducted high-profile investigations into Sports Direct, Amazon, Hillsborough, Orgreave, bullying in the Tory party – which led to the resignation of Grant Shapps – and most recently the Panama Papers, the biggest data leak in history and a story which has reverberated around the globe. Two months ago, we poached Nick Hopkins from Newsnight to run our investigations team, so the suggestion that the Guardian has become more risk averse is risible.”
