Giles Coren pens regular technology column for T3

Writer and broadcaster Giles Coren has joined Future’s monthly technology magazine T3 as a columnist.

A self-confessed Luddite, Coren has added to his regular fixture as a columnist for The Times by joining T3 to pen a regular ‘adventures in technology’column.

His first article, about Apple’s iPhone 4, appears in the September issue of the magazine. The magazine went on sale this week.

Coren said: ‘I can’t believe a gadget magazine has asked me to write a column for them. It’s like asking Gordon Brown to write about charm.

‘Technology is truly the thing I know least about. The thing that scares me most. I still don’t trust a telephone without a dial, or a radio without wires, or a carriage without a horse in front of it.

‘I’m just going to have to bluff my way through it. Or get some teenage geek to write a computer programme that’ll do it for me…”

The author of Anger Management for Beginners and presenter of various television shows is expected, in the coming months, turn his acerbic wit to 3D TV, tablet computing and next-generation gaming.

According to the most recent figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, T3 averaged sales of 59,143 each month in the second half of last year, a drop of 1.6 per cent year-on-year.

The magazine appointed Luke Peters as its new editor in May to replace Michael Brook, who moved earlier this year to become editor of T3 Specials, overseeing the launch of Future’s Gadget Show Magazine.

Peters said: “Giles will add a new dimension we’ve never had before. He’s a brilliant writer and commentator and given his self-confessed cynicism about new technology, he’ll bring a completely different perspective from the expert view as he gets to grips with the latest gear. Amusing and provocative, yes. Dull, definitely no. I can’t wait!”
