Forces get News of the World Xmas cheer

By Press Gazette

The News of the World brought out a special edition for members of the British forces posted overseas at Christmas. Some 7,500 copies were printed, mainly going to Afghanistan, Iraq and Germany, distributed via the MoD. As well as a DVD insert, the special edition NoW made a deal with Vodaphone to give soldiers half-price text messages.

A NoW spokesman said: ‘It’s the fourth time we’ve done a forces edition in recent times – most recently for the World Cup. ‘The MoD says it’s very good for morale. We used to change a large amount of content, but the feedback that we got was the forces staff miss their normal News of the World, so we now give them a normal edition, but with changed pages one to seven and centre pages.

‘The rest of the paper is a full-size version of the UK main edition.”
