FoI reveals BBC received £6m in sponsorship money

The BBC has made £6m from sponsorship of events over the past five years, figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by the Daily Telegraph have revealed

The news comes after the BBC pulled the plug on a corporate website advertising sponsorship opportunities for a number of BBC events, following a Sunday Times investigation.

The BBC insists the practice does not break its editorial guidelines, which state: ‘In some circumstances it may be acceptable to supplement the cost of mounting a free-standing BBC event with sponsorship from a suitable outside body.”
