Exclusive splashes help secure Mercury’s success

By Press Gazette

The past 18 months has seen a remarkable turnaround for the Sunday Mercury. Two years ago we were posting year-on-year declines of 12 per cent and more.

In 2007, we had reduced that to 3.8 per cent and since January things have been looking even brighter.

We’ve also picked up a few awards along the way, too. In November we were voted Newspaper of the Year in the Midlands’ Media Awards, and followed that up last month by winning the Regional Newspaper of the Year title at the Newspaper Society’s awards.

Instrumental in that success has been the Sunday Mercury’s exclusive news stories and investigations. I have a small but committed team of journalists who love landing the stories that are regularly followed up by the nationals, TV and radio.
