Elle magazine has strengthened its fashion team and signed up Mouchette Bell, a former model and fashion director of Mademoiselle in New York.
The appointment coincides with Lucie Kearney’s promotion from fashion editor to senior fashion editor.
Bell has been given the title fashion editor-at-large. She was born in Dublin and moved to New York to take up modelling in the Eighties, before returning to London to join Vogue, where she worked alongside Anna Wintour and the late Liz Tilberis.
After Vogue, she freelanced for The Observer, The Sunday Times and German Vogue before moving to Manhattan again to join Mademoiselle.
Elle editor Sarah Bailey said: “She brings eclecticism, romance and great taste to the pages. She works brilliantly with photographers. We are delighted to have her on board.” Kearney joined Elle in 1997 as a fashion intern, having also freelanced as a stylist for The Guardian, The Independent, Sunday Times Style and the Evening Standard.
In her new role as senior fashion editor, she will work alongside Elle fashion director Iain Webb. “Her shoots ooze sexy, stylish, spirited energy,” said Bailey.
