Former Liverpool soccer star Emlyn Hughes was one of the first voices on Real Radio-presenting the Real Sports Phone-In from the first day. He was a larger-than-life character who illuminated the entire building whenever he walked in. Emlyn received hundreds of phone calls whenever he was on-air and achieved record-breaking early evening audiences for us.
I last saw him a few weeks ago when I visited him at his home in Sheffield and he was on top form. Although physically unwell he never lost his sharp wit and sparkle and had me laughing the entire time I was there.
He was proud of his friends in football, show business and radio and was in constant touch with many of his former team mates up to the very end. Emlyn Hughes was a true legend and we will all miss him enormously.
