The Edinburgh Evening News football team, skippered by deputy business editor Jim Stanton, has scooped the top football prize in the Scottish media championships.
It was the second time the Evening News had contested the final of the BT Scotland Press Challenge tournament at Hampden, the national stadium. In 2001, the side lost 1-0 to The Sun.
Victorious Stanton said: “It was disappointing to lose the 2001 final.
But as we went through the rounds this year, our confidence grew as our performances improved. We knew that after winning the quarter-final against Scottish and Universal Newspapers we had a chance of winning the trophy.”
There were 18 teams of journalists in the tournament and two teams of MPs and MSPs.
