Dennis acquires technology website Bit-Tech.net

By Rachael Gallagher

Dennis Publishing has expanded its portfolio of technology titles with the acquisition of the website Bit-Tech.net.

The purchase is the latest in a string of acquisitions for the publisher, which recently bought monthly magazine Digital SLR Photography, announced the lauch of The Week in Australia and branched out into India.

Bit-Tech.net, currently owned by Bit Publishing, will boost the publisher’s technology magazines and websites – which includes brands such as PC Pro, itpro.co.uk, knowyourmobile.co.uk and iGizmo.

Launched in 2001, the site publishes reviews, news, features and technology information written by a team of international technology writers.

It also hosts a forum for computer and gaming enthusiasts, and claims 1.05m unique users and 6.6m page impressions a month.

Bit Publishing managing director Hugh Chappell will be employed by Dennis Publishing on a consultancy basis, the company said.

The rest of the editorial, advertising and development staff on the website will be hired as Dennis employees, reporting to the publishing director of the digital technology portfolio, Barry Cronin, but will continue to work from the Bit Publishing premises in Ascot.

Chappell said: “Dennis Publishing enjoys considerable success in the technology sector and importantly they understand our market. This acquisition is a logical step for bit-tech.net and will ensure continued growth.”

Dennis Publishing chief executive James Tye said: ‘Bit-Tech.net is a respected and authoritative website with a vibrant and growing community.

“It is an excellent complement to our existing IT portfolio and the acquisition will boost our technology site traffic levels to over 3.35m unique users per month.

“At this traffic level, we are able to offer our advertisers both massive reach and precise targeting as and when required.”
