Daily Mirror throws support behind David Miliband for Labour leadership

By Dominic wireposts

The Daily Mirror today threw its weight behind David Miliband in the race to become Labour leader.

The only consistently pro-Labour Fleet Street national today said in a front page leader: “We believe he has the intellect, talent and experience to take on the Tories – and eventually become PM.

“And we urge all those with a vote in the contest to rally behind him.”

The Daily Mirror was the only London-based national to back Labour in the May general election.

Ballot papers go out today in the Labour leadership contest.

The Daily Mirror says the former foreign secretary, “has a formidable intellect, a quick sense of humour and we know the Tories really fear David Miliband”.

Left-leaning current affairs weekly the New Statesman last week urged its readers to vote for Ed Miliband, the younger of the two brothers both fighting for the Labour leadership.
