The Daily Mail, Daily Star and New magazine yesterday apologised to Sir Roger Moore for publishing stories using false quotes from the Sunday People.
The Sunday People agreed to pay undisclosed damages to Moore in January after falsely quoting him in a story headlined, “I’ve had Moore women than James Bond”.
The Sunday title admitted it had falsely claimed to have an exclusive interview with Moore on 16 September last year.
The Daily Mail ran the false quotes the next day, 17 September, and the Daily Star and New both ran stories on 18 September.
All four titles quoted Moore saying “I’ve had more women than James Bond”, originally quoted in the Sunday People.
Despite the fact the Sunday People admitted two months ago that Moore did not give the interview to one of its reporters and “did not make the comments”, the Daily Mail, Daily Star and New issued clarifications only yesterday.
All three yesterday admitted that the quotes, from a “Sunday newspaper”, were not accurate.
