Daily Mail and Sunday Express both up in April

Two national newspapers put on sales year on year in the royal wedding month of April, according to ABC: The Daily Mail (up 0.2 per cent to 2,100,300) and the Sunday Express (up 4.8 per cent to 601,666).

The Independent’s stablemate ‘i’ again saw a month-on-month drop in sales, falling 6 per cent from 171,415 in March to 161,151.

The Glasgow-based Sunday Herald was the biggest faller in April, dropping 30.2 per cent year on year to 29,578, after relaunching as a news magazine in January.

The Sunday Express also had the biggest month on month circulation increase, up 12.8 per cent to 601,666.

Six dailies saw month-on-month growth: the Daily Mirror (1.5 per cent); the Daily Express (2.4 per cent); the Daily Mail (3 per cent); The Daily Telegraph (2.1 per cent) The Guardian (1.1 per cent) and The Times (0.8 per cent).

Mail Newspapers circulation director Neil Jagger said: ‘Our titles have once again demonstrated that they are the clear paper of choice for many when it comes to covering key global events, such as the royal wedding and the demise of Bin Laden.

‘We began 2011 with a number of timely and very popular promotions for our readers. This coupled with our focus on creating more six-day-a-week buyers, through subscriptions and home delivery, has helped produce very strong ABC results so far this year.”
